Google is expanding its online solar service that helps customers assess cost and benefits of installing solar on their rooftops to be able to reach more homeowners.
Through its ‘Project Sunroof’ service, the internet giant is now analysing properties in the Raleigh area of North Carolina as well as 15 metropolitan areas in Arizona, Nevada, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey and Colorado.

Project Sunroof was launched in California and Massachusetts last summer combining bird’s eye views from Google Earth with data on shading over rooftops, local weather patterns, industry pricing and the subsidies available in order to estimate the costs of solar installs.
Google partnered with solar energy system provider Vivint Solar for the project with Vivint assisting potential customers in developing and installing rooftop PV systems.
Google said it has invested more than US$1 billion into solar energy over the last few years, including $300 million in 2015 into a fund for financing residential rooftop installations.
