Argentina’s 1GW renewables tender has received submissions for 6,366MW of capacity, according the Ministry of Energy and Mining.
The 300MW assigned for solar technology saw 58 project submissions totalling 2,834MW, across the states of Salta, San Juan, Jujuy, Catamarca, San Luis, La Rioja, Mendoza, Neuquén, La Pampa, Córdoba, Buenos Aires and Chaco.

The 600MW assigned for wind saw 49 project proposals amounting to 3,468MW. There were also 53MW submissions for biomass and biogas and 11MW for hydro.
With solar submissions totalling 844% of assigned capacity, Round 1 of the RENEW tender programme is clearly heavily oversubscribed.
Technical qualification of the proposals will take place on 3 October 2016, followed by the opening of economic proposals on 7 October. The awarding of tenders will then take place on 12 October.
At a press conference, minister of energy and mining Juan Aranguren said: “The goal of the administration of President Macri is to ensure energy security for the country and the impact of energy sources on climate change can be minimized.
“The RENEW Program fulfills that objective. Diversify the energy matrix, have new energy sources not only to ensure that we have sufficient energy for economic development of our country, but at the same time help to reduce the impact our activities have on climate change.”
The new tender prgramme is expected to create around 5,000-8,000 jobs in the country.
