Arthur Rudin and Robert Muhn have joined SoloPower as the new VP of product development and general manager of sales, respectively. Combined the two solar veterans bring 60 years of experience in the solar industry to the company.
Trina Solar announced that it has entered into a sales agreement with Proinso (Proyectos Integrales Solares). Trina Solar will provide Proinso with around 108MW of PV modules at predetermined prices. Proinso has an option to purchase an additional 12MW in the first quarter of 2010.
The Lawrence Berkeley National Lab has released its “Tracking the Sun II: The Installed Cost of Photovoltaics in the US from 1998-2008” report. Among their findings is that the average cost of going solar in the US has declined by more than 30% between 1998 and 2008. They are crediting the government initiatives at the state and local level for the decrease in price and have also found that after a three year plateau, costs have decreased by 3.6% between 2007and 2008.
SunLink has announced its supply agreement with Nanosolar to develop and supply a custom, flat-roof system that is the favored mounting solution for Nanosolar. The Nanosolar SunLink roof system was conceived as part of the largest single Solar America Initiative awarded by the US Department of Energy.
Camstar Systems landed a deal to supply its SolarSuite for Q-Cells’ two new production lines in Bitterfeld-Thalheim, Germany, and its new factory in Malaysia, where production, at peak, is expected to be over 300MW by the end of 2010. Q-Cells chose the SolarSuite for its intended solution to lower cost per watt through improved process quality and cell efficiency.
The board of directors for DayStar Technologies has accepted the notice to terminate a letter of intent in regards to the proposed transaction with EPOD Solar, citing its decision as in the best interest for all of DayStar’s shareholders. The company will still search for other financing options and will also continue with the $125 million loan guarantee application with the U.S. Department of Energy, filed September 14.
Sunpower announced its plans to design and build a 1MW solar electric power plant, which is owned by Bluenergia. The solar plant will be located in Mesagne, Comune di Brindisi, Italy and has an anticipated completion date of sometime in early 2010.
Millipore’s chairman and CEO, Martin Madaus, was joined by Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick and other public figures for a ribbon cutting ceremony that celebrated the company’s completion of its $2 million solar panel installation at its Bedford, Massachusetts, campus. The solar project will provide renewable energy for Millipore’s Bedford and Billerica, Massachusetts sites.
In a rather depressed North Carolina economy, SAS, groSolar and FLS Energy have come together and announced the joint development of a second solar farm on SAS’ Cary, NC, headquarters. The estimated March 2010 completion of the project will generate around 1.9 million kilowatt-hours annually, which provides enough energy to power over 200 homes.
China Sunergy announced that, effective immediately, Siegfried Yi Chou Hsu, will be the company’s new Chief Financial Officer while Shiliang Guo, the company’s current acting CFO, has resigned from the position and will remain as a director.
