Located on a former military site, AES Solaire France has launched its 1.2MW ground-mounted solar PV power plant. The Sault (Vaucluse), France, site previously housed a nuclear missile from the mid-1960s until it was dismantled in the late 1990s.

CFV Solar Test Laboratory, jointly owned by the CSA Group, the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE, the Fraunhofer USA Center for Sustainable Energy Systems CSE and the VDE Testing and Certification Institute, has revealed that Albuquerque, New Mexico will house their new solar module testing laboratory.

During IEEE’s 35th PV specialist conference, RASIRC and the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems will present their research on using purified steam in the solar cell fabrication process with their paper, “Purified Steam for Industrial Thermal Oxidation Processes.” The paper compares purified steam with pryolytic team for silicon solar cell fabrication.

As World Cup mania continues to grip the world, SolarWorld is helping to bring the game a little closer to the 2,000 people in South African and Namibian villages that have not had any access to electricity or the media. The company installed 35 solar-operated television viewing stations in the two countries to not only help football fans  cheer on their teams, but to also promote education, such as information about HIV, through the use of media resources.

During the 35th IEEE PV specialist conference, Casey Kazmierowicz, chairman of the board at KIC, will present his paper, “Thermal Profiling of Silicon Solar Cells During the Metallization Process”. The paper will delve into a procedure using a thermal profiler and flattened TC junction thermocouples in a wafer fixture for accurate and repeatable measurements in an IR belt furnace.

Q-Cells' general meeting on June 24 of the supervisory board will hold an election for a new board member, with Karlheinz Hornung as the nominated party. Current board member, Andre Lee, has resigned from his office. Incumbent chairman, Marcel Brenninkmeijer, will make the office as chairman available and propose Hornung for this position at the general meeting as well, if Hornung is elected to the supervisory board. Brenninkmeijer will continue as a member of the board for Q-Cells.

In accordance to the newly signed long-term strategic partnership between Q-Cells and Innotech Solar, Q-Cells will sell all of its non-prime solar cells to ITS for conversion into PV solutions under the ITS name. All visual and electrical non-prime solar cells will be supplied to ITS under a multi-year agreement.

IEEE Photovoltaic Specialists Conference’s organizing committee announced the speakers for the 35th PV gathering on June 20 through 25. Located at the Hawaii Convention Center in Honolulu, Hawaii, the convention will hold panel discussions and presentations during the five day symposium.

Solyndra has achieved microgeneration product certification from BRE Global Limited in the UK after extensive testing and auditing of its products. This achievement brings Solyndra into a small and elite group of solar companies to have achieved BRE Global certification.

Marking the company’s first move into the solar energy division, Nanoco Group, developer and manufacture of quantum dots and other nanomaterials, has signed a joint development agreement with Tokyo Electron. Nanoco will develop a solar-active nanomaterial film for use in Tokyo Electron’s solar cell manufacturing equipment.
