Astronergy, also known as Chint Solar, has selected Munich Re, a reinsurance company, to cover its crystalline silicon PV modules for the 25-year warranty on its solar panels.
Shelby, North Carolina is a home to the newest completed solar project by Duke Energy Generation Systems (DEGS) and SunPower. The 1MW solar project began construction in March and is currently producing energy for the North Carolina Municipal Power Agency Number 1 (NCMPA1) – serving Shelby, NC.
CSA Group and the VDE Testing and Certification Institute have signed a reciprocal testing services agreement for PV modules, which includes working with Fraunhofer USA and the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems for a new solar technology facility in the US Southwest. The agreement is immediately effective and hopes to enable the organizations to test products to current applicable standards.
Intersolar has announced its nominees for the title of “most innovative solar companies of 2010”. The awards will be handed out at the company’s June exhibition in categories such as: photovoltaics, solar thermal technology and, the newest category, PV production technology.

A group of experts from the private and public wind, solar, and power sectors recently completed and published, with the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, "The Western Wind and Solar Integration Study." The report looks at benefits and challenges that come when incorporating wind and solar energy capacity into the grid to produce 35% of its electricity needs by 2017. The study is a starting point for utilities in the Western region to plan the proper increase in renewable energy production when incorporating wind and solar energy plants onto the grid.
Through its subsidiary, Changzhou Trina Solar Energy, Trina Solar has announced that it has entered into a strategic partnership with TUV Rheinland Group, Underwriter’s Laboratories, and China General Certification Centre. The new agreement is a move for the company to introduce its newest certified product lines to its customers in the quickest manner possible.
With a $4.4 million project funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, it’s no wonder that Yosemite National Park is looking forward to installing a large-scale solar panel project at its El Portal site. Installation begins this June on the project, which will have a 539kW PV generation system and on completion be the largest grid-connected PV system in the National Park System.
3M announced that it will be an associate partner of the Desertec Industrial Initiative based in Germany. 3M will contribute in film, adhesive and coating component technologies along with its experience in high-voltage overhead systems.
