Michael Trousseau, former chief operating officer of EDF Energies, was informed by the company’s board of directors that he would have to leave his position with the company. The departure was announced at the board’s April 15 meeting.

Reinhard Bütikofer, the Deputy Floor Leader of the Greens in the European Parliament, was on hand at the opening event of Centrosolar Sonnenstromfabrik’s new production line start-up. The company has now increased its production capacity to 155MWp from its previous 110MWp and will produce an additional 1,000 solar modules per day. The new line also has the potential to build 72-cell high performance modules that will create an output of more than 300W.
India has dveloped The National Solar Mission (NSM) to help increase the country’s solar market development through the use of encouraging policy frameworks that promote solar power throughout the country. With a 20GW target of installed solar power by 2022, the NSM is scheduled to be executed in three phases over a 13-year period with three five-year plans.
Organic photovoltaics developer Solarmer Energy has achieved the highest conversion efficiency recorded so far for a plastic OPV champion cell—7.9%. The aperture-area test results, recently certified by the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory, represent an improvement over independent exams conducted a few months ago at Newport Corp.’s Technology and Application Center’s PV Lab, where cell efficiencies of 7.6% and module efficiencies of 3.9% were recorded.
DuPont Apollo, a subsidiary of DuPont, has opened its silicon based thin-film PV module manufacturing facility. The 538,000-square-foot facility will have an annual capacity of up to 50MW with a thin-film-on-glass photovoltaic module production line. Full-scale commercial production is targeted for the first-quarter 2010.
Yingli Green Energy announced at its annual global customer conference that its Yingli Solar brand modules have received the power controlled certification from TÜV Rheinland. The power controlled certification provides independent verification and assurance that the real rated power of Yingli Solar brand modules are within the specified tolerance stated in the company’s datasheets.
Shortly after eSolar announced its establishment of operations in South Africa and the Sierra SunTower in Southern California, they have now recruited George (Chip) Hambro, the retried COO of First Solar, to its board of directors. Hambro helped First Solar achieve a successful IPO, increase its global reach and focus its R&D to advance the thin-film technology and eSolar now looks forward to Hambro bringing his talent to their board.
