Philadelphia-based independent power producer (IPP) Doral Renewables has celebrated the imminent commercial operation of the Mammoth South, Mammoth Central I and II sites of its Mammoth Solar project in Pulaski County, Indiana.
The three phases of the Mammoth Solar project each produce 300MWac, representing 900MW of the project’s 1.3GW total. The Mammoth project comprises the Pulaski County sites, plus Mammoth North in Starke County. The three phases in imminent operation were constructed over 18 months.

The solar installations are agrivoltaics projects (subscription required), the combination of solar power hardware with traditional agriculture practices such as livestock grazing and food production taking place under solar infrastructure. The company’s efforts are partly the result of an ongoing partnership with Purdue University entered into earlier this year. There are demonstration zones at the Pulaski and Starke County sites reserved for research and community impact activities. Here, researchers can host crop trials and test the latest in robotics and advanced monitoring systems.
A US$1.3 billion financial investment raised by Doral Renewables funded the three PV sites in Pulaski County, finance that was announced in 2025. The company broke ground in October 2021 on the first phase of the project, the Mammoth Solar North facility in Starke County.
AEP Energy, a division of American Electric Power, was one of the earliest to agree to be an offtaker for the sites’ energy, and the Mammoth project keeps the focus American where it can, deploying domestically-produced elements that include trackers from Nextracker. Virginia-headquartered Bechtel also provided engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services.
Speaking at the celebration of the Pulaski County’s operations, Robert Vinje, chief operating officer at Nextpower, said: “Mammoth Solar is a powerful example of what happens when we connect American manufacturing directly to American energy infrastructure—Indiana steel, made by Indiana local workers, built into an Indiana power plant, and generating electricity for Indiana communities. We’re proud to partner with Doral and Bechtel on a project that delivers reliable, high-performance solar generation while creating lasting economic and agricultural value for the farmers, families, and communities that call Indiana home.”
Doral’s solar and storage development portfolio comprises over 22GW nationwide, which includes nearly 450MWac in active operation, 900MWac imminently reaching commercial operation and over 1,700MWac under construction. The company operates in 16 states and five electricity markets in the US.
