EU PVSEC: Sputnik commissions its first solar power plant with a new megawatt station

Coinciding with Sputnik Engineering presenting its the new megawatt station for the first time at EU PVSEC the inverter company has announced the commissioning of its first megawatt station in Hemau, in the district of Regensburg and installed by SolaStrom Systems.

Two of its ‘SolarMax’ central inverters feed the power directly into the transformer on a medium-voltage grid. The transformerless technology has enabled Sputnik to cut both the size and the weight of the system by half compared with the previous models while boosting efficiency by 1.5%, the company said.

The PV system in Hemau is monitored by Sputnik’s communications network, MaxComm, together with its internet-based data logger MaxWeb. SolaStrom will install SolarMax inverters with a total capacity of 3MW in 2009.
