JA Solar and Bundesliga football club Borussia Dortmund have announced a collaboration on the installation of a new photovoltaic system on the roof of the club’s Signal Iduna Park stadium, creating the world’s largest such system.
Aligned with the sustainability goals and long-term vision shared by both parties, the project will generate reliable green electricity for the next 30 years. More than 11,000 modules will be installed on the stadium roof and the system will generate an annual 4GWh of electricity for the club’s own consumption, while eliminating some 1,800 tons of CO₂ emissions and significantly improving the stadium’s energy security and resilience.
Installation is scheduled to begin in summer 2025, with completion targeted before the start of the 2025-26 Bundesliga season.
