Jinkosolar has been ranked for the second time as the holder of the largest number of PV patents in a ‘leaderboard’ published by the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce (ACFIC), with 4,100 patents registered and 2,280 granted at the end of 2023.
The majority of the company’s 460 TOPCon patents have been commercialized in its flagship Tiger Neo panels, with Jinko granting two top 10 manufacturers access to certain of these ‘to facilitate the industry’s technology advancement.’
“While we will remain an intellectual property powerhouse with one of the strongest solar PV patent portfolios, as part of our innovation strategy, we are taking a more focused and selective approach to patenting,” commented VP Dany Qian. “The industry needs innovation and action more than ever. Jinkosolar’s sustained commitment to investing in research and development, both in good and challenging times, has paved the way for new products and new frontiers of solar PV technology that have greatly benefited both our customers and the industry.”
Patents are seen as a reflection of a company’s capacity and commitment for innovation. Increasing awareness and respect for intellectual property, and patenting an innovation or new technology, are considered necessary to secure research and development (R&D) efforts, which will then eventually lead to economic gains.
