LONGi has announced another significant breakthrough in solar cell R&D, with its independently developed two-terminal crystalline silicon-perovskite tandem solar cell achieving a conversion efficiency of 34.85%, certified by the U.S. National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL).
As a leading technology pathway for next-generation ultra-efficient cells, crystalline silicon-perovskite tandem cells offer a theoretical efficiency limit of 43%, far surpassing the Shockley-Queisser (SQ) ceiling for single-junction cells (33.7%). LONGi’s tandem solar cell R&D team has consistently pushed the boundaries of this technology, achieving a number of related milestones since November 2023.
The company also announced last week at its Wuhu Base in Anhui a further groundbreaking achievement, with its independently developed Hybrid Interdigitated-Back-Contact (HIBC) crystalline silicon solar cell reaching a conversion efficiency of 27.81%, certified by Germany’s Institute for Solar Energy Research in Hamelin (ISFH).
With this breakthrough, LONGi has simultaneously refreshed its own world records in both single-junction and perovskite tandem solar cells, reinforcing its leadership position in core photovoltaic technologies.
