Utility Gulf Power has reached a settlement with Florida’s clean energy industry as it drops its proposal that would have resulted in a 155% increase in power rates.
Texan utility El Paso Electric filed a request with regulators asking them to approve an 8.7% increase for electric customers and a mandatory demand charge for solar users.
Washington-based environmental organisation the Sierra Club is taking Florida Power & Light to court over a US$811 million rate hike over the next four years that “bilks millions of customers and further locks the Sunshine State into an over reliance on financially risky, climate-disrupting gas,” the group said.
