UK-based off-grid renewables specialist BBOXX has signed a deal with the Government of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to bring clean power to 2.5 million citizens across the African country by 2020, via off-grid solar kits and mini-grids.
Orange, which already provides energy access through solar to residents in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Madagascar, is extending its services to Burkina Faso, and further ahead in Senegal, Mali, Guinea and Côte d’Ivoire by June this year.
The European Investment Bank (EIB) is to provide US$25 million in financing to d.light design to strengthen access to energy in Africa via solar kits, starting off in Ethiopia, Kenya, Nigeria, Tanzania and Uganda.
